Since 2010, Fellerman & Ciarimboli have been encouraging students across Pennsylvania to take the Safe Prom Pledge — abstaining from drugs and alcohol during prom season. More than 30,000 students have taken the pledge and now in its eighth year, we encourage all to take the pledge.
Dave Kuharchik: The prom season is coming up very soon so we’re going to talk about an annual program by the guys here on “The Law & You” that you’re probably going to want to hear about. Joining us as always is attorneys Greg Fellerman and Ed Ciarimboli. And gentlemen, it’s hard to believe that the spring season is here, the prom season is upon us, and you guys do really a great job every year getting out there and talking to area kids.
Ed Ciarimboli: So, we’re going to put you on the spot. Are you going to come out to the prom pledge and do one with us this year?
Dave: You know, you’ve asked me for so many years that I’m going out this year.
Ed: All right, good deal. Good deal. We’ll let you pick the school.
Dave: All right, good deal.
Ed: Cool. So this is our seventh or eighth year of doing the prom pledge. Many lawyers on our staff go out, we speak to high school students about the dangers of drinking and driving and drug use, not only on prom night but in and around graduation season because this is the time of year that we see a real increase in crashes and fatalities involving people who are 18, 19 years old. So we want to make sure we’re giving them some education and letting them know that there are alternatives, that they don’t have to go out and get behind the wheel.
Greg Fellerman: This offer is open to every high school in Northeastern Pennsylvania. Last year, I think we did close to 30 high schools. If your school is interested in having us come, the presentation is about 45 minutes. We’ll do the whole school if they want but it’s an open invitation, no cost. We just show up, we do it, we have a lot of fun. We give out all kinds of gifts, t-shirts, and it’s a really educational program. And I think it helps. And the time is important, we like to come right around your prom. So we’re kind of right in front of in the line of what you’re thinking about as the prom is rolling up. Because these tragedies do occur. And we’re trying to prevent that from happening in Northeastern PA.
Ed: And there has not been one fatality on prom night in the last seven years.
Dave: That is good news.
Greg: The kids listen. The kids are great. They’re really smart.
Dave: Well I think the key is in this program is that Greg gets a little bit loose.
Ed: He does!
Dave: He takes selfies with the kids. Results matter. Give these guys a call, check them out online. Attorneys Greg Fellerman and Ed Ciarimboli, we’ll see you next time.
Ed: Thanks, Dave.
Greg: Call that number.
