A viewer’s business had recently been affected by a tornado. He’s currently fighting with the insurance company and wants to know if the “Law and You” attorneys can help. Insurance attorneys Greg Fellerman and Ed Ciarimboli offer some words of advice.
Dave Kuharchik: So we got a followup tonight on “The Law & You,” from the confirmed EF2 tornado recently in Wilkes-Barre Township. We’ll get to that in just a moment. Attorneys Greg Fellerman and Ed Ciarimboli are here from the virtual law center. Guys, always good to see you.
Greg Fellerman: I love EF2. What an amazing weather reference.
Ed Ciarimboli: See, Greg loves the weather.
Dave: We’re going to talk about this. Obviously, there a lot of different angles. There was severe damage. Luckily, a couple of injuries were just minor. But Tom in Dallas asking, “My business was affected by the recent tornado and I am fighting with my insurance company.” So, we hear about this a lot. You pay your insurance fees, you hope you’ll get help when you need it but sometimes people don’t. So, what do you say to Tom?
Ed: So Tom, in any of these claims, you have got to be super aggressive and super proactive, documenting everything, taking photographs of everything, getting all your policy documents together, all your coverages. Because there are going to be, unfortunately, some exclusions for wind damage or water damage in these types of particular claims. So you really got to get all of your ducks in a row, take a look at what’s covered, what’s not covered and go out and hire a public adjuster to help you with this. Because you’re not going to be able to do it without an adjuster.
Greg: The public adjuster thing is really big because what they basically do is they work on behalf of you with the insurance company. They kind of speak the same language. The public adjuster will review your policy with you, let you know what’s really covered, figure out what kind of money you’re entitled to, and then work on the benefit of your claim. And he gets paid a percentage, a small percentage for the work that he’s doing. Every case that we’ve had it’s been very helpful. Sometimes what happens is we get brought in on the back side when there’s a huge dispute and we have to end up fighting and suing the insurance company on behalf of the policy owner. So, be diligent but I would reach out and get some help immediately.
Ed: Yeah, no question about it. Fire, wind, water, absolutely invaluable.
Dave: And if you’re in that boat, the guys can help you out. Give them a call, check them out online and don’t forget results matter. Attorneys Greg Fellerman and Ed Ciarimboli, see you next time, guys.
Greg and Ed: Thanks, Dave.
