A viewer’s sister lives in a nursing home. He has discovered that she’s been having bed sores. The nursing home says his sister’s skin is to blame for the sores. Is there something they can do?
Haley Blanco: Oh you’re in luck because it’s time for some free legal advice. It’s time for “The Law & You” and joining us today we have attorneys Ed Ciarimboli and Harry McGrath.
Ed Ciarimboli:Yes, you’re in luck.
Haley: You are in luck. Absolutely.
Ed: It’s your lucky day.
Haley: We all love free stuff. So why not free legal advice? So let’s get to this question submitted today by a viewer. This comes from Tim in Freeland. Tim says, “My sister is in a nursing facility and she has been having bedsores the nursing home is blending it on her skin.” What can we do?
Ed: Tim, it is absolutely obnoxious that the nursing home is doing that. We have handled a lot of these cases. People shouldn’t get bed sores in a nursing home facility. It’s just very simple. There are policies and protocols in place both at the federal level and at the state level. And then also every one of these nursing homes has a policy regarding turning residents checking for bed sores. The reason that your loved one develops these bedsores is because nobody is watching your loved one. I mean that’s the reality of these nursing facilities. They are profit-driven and they need to be held accountable for stuff like this. And the fact that they’re telling you that it’s as a result of because of their skin, totally obnoxious. It really is. Pick up the phone and get in touch.
Harry McGrath: Absolutely and you know, the reason you place your loved one in a facility like that is so they can get more care and not less and this is something that we like to call a known risk. Nursing homes understand the people that are there are compromising, are more at risk for these type of injuries to happen. So it’s an argument that we make a lot and it’s something that you should not have to you know endure if you’re admitted to a facility like this. So give us a call and we’ll do our best to help you out.
Haley: Yeah, Tim sounds like you’ve a case there. So give them a call, you can find them online or like them on social media. Ed and Harry, thank you so much for your time today.
