Warm Weather Brings Its Fair Share of Accidental Injuries

|

Truth be told, we hold frigid temperatures responsible for a great number of accidental injuries. However, that’s now always the case. While the warm weather has arrived, some prospective hazards become non-issues.  Meanwhile, there’s the prospect for harm that still exists.

Here in Pennsylvania, snow and ice are no longer your concern. Instead, you need to worry about what can happen to you or a loved one at a bonfire, camping trip, picnics, barbecue, or pool party.

Meanwhile, if you ventured to vacation in Philadelphia to see the sights, you could get hurt. The same is true if you’ve decided to go through Scranton or Wilkes-Barre on your way to the Poconos.

AUTOMOBILE CRASHES AND ACCIDENTAL INJURIES

Once again, you might easily associate automobile crashes with colder climates. No doubt that snow and ice make for slippery conditions.

That said, you may have noticed the number of motor vehicles on the roadways decreases when the highways appear concerning. Some people turn to public transportation such as buses and trains. Fortunately, they’re less susceptible to accidental harm.

When the warm weather comes in, more and more cars are on the roads. You’ll notice the increase in traffic volume results in more rear-end hits as drivers encounter stop and go traffic. Obviously, the potential for motorcycle crashes surges as well. It’s not as if you see many bikers on Pennsylvania roads in January and February.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drunk driving accidents go up in the summer months. It could be the warm weather encourages people attempt to quench their thirst. More than likely, it’s more related to the opportunity to kick back and relax.

Summer Slip and Fall Accidents

As you might imagine, different kinds of wet surfaces pose the most likely circumstances in which someone can suffer a slip and fall injury. And, it’s not just cold weather that accounts for watery or slick surfaces.

The areas in and around a pool can be extremely slippery, particularly those areas involving the combination of tiles and water. Even a person just walking in the vicinity of the pool needs to exercise caution in order to avoid the potential of injury.

With water between the bottom of your feet and the surface of the ground, you can easily slip and fall if you aren’t paying attention to the conditions around you.

There are many other factors to think about besides the hazards of wet surfaces and even what you choose as summer footgear. Many property owners do not take the precautions necessary to ensure that their premises are safe. Property hazards may include:

  • Broken sidewalks
  • Vegetation and debris accumulating in walkways
  • Gravel and sand migrating from their intended locations
  • Tools and toys scattered hazardously

Meanwhile, there’s only the potential for a failure to provide any warning of a potentially hazardous condition, which could cause an injury to happen.

In Pennsylvania, property owners have a duty to maintain their premises in a safe manner. Failure to take steps to provide protection to others and prevent slip and fall accidents from occurring could represent a claim of action.
